How do I buy used tires

Hello, as winter rolls in, I’m in the market for a set of winter tires (on rims) for my 2010 Acura RDX SH-AWD and I’ve been looking around online on things like kijiji.

Ive been seeing lots of options that fit but I’m wondering what red flags to be aware of while looking around. Ive been looking at sets where owners state 80%+ of tread remains.
Particularly weary of tire age and whether to get a set with TPMS or not.

any advice and/or opinions would be appreciated!

I would avoid used tires altogether. You don't know what's hiding inside them. It's not worth it.

Get a nice new set with warranty and road hazard guarantee.

Just buy brand new tyres + junkyard rims, mate..

Don’t be -

You can determine the tire age, on the sidewall it has a 4 digit code that stands for the week and the year. You can look it up online for specifics, but I check it even when buying new tires. I bought a new set of Nokian Hakkas and they were 4 years old! I promptly sent them back and they sent newer ones.

I have sold many sets of used tires, and they were in good shape. As others have said though, safest to buy new.

Under other circumstances you could look for “take offs” (OEM tires and wheels that new owners replace with custom stuff.). But that won’t apply with winter tires.
Maybe find tires that were bought “just in case” but not actually used.

If money is not an issue then as everyone else said buy new. You can get good prices on tires at Costco especially if on sale. It's just not worth the risk of buying used in my opinion.
