I have a very general question. I’m looking at an 05 and 06 V8 4Runner. The 05 has 140k and the 06 220k. Both are priced appropriately. My question is: What is the general reliability of the V8 version of the 4Runner to include transmission. Of course I’m assuming right now both cars do not have issues, just mileage. Lastly, this SUV would not be my daily driver, just to run to a hardware store or camping from time to time.

How often would that be?
If once in a blue moon, would you want to spend all that money on a purchase (and maintenance) vs just renting (when required)?
Good morning and very good point. I’d use it once a month for home chores I’d guess, maybe more in spring and fall. Then I’d guess a few times during hunting season.
But perhaps you’re correct the 5k or so could be used elsewhere.

As for the reliability of the engine and transmission, the 4.7 and a750 transmission are among the most reliable Toyota has ever made. Toyota used the a750 starting in like 2001 until now, that should tell you something.
