A 1956 Chevy 3100 235ci straight six. I've had the engine rebuilt twice. Does this change the valve clearance settings?

Do you mean has YOUR valve gap changed? Or has the specification changed? If the engine hasn't been modded, then no.

Do you have solid or hydraulic lifters? Is it a stock cam or aftermarket?
