$600 for a 3 minute job?!

Scotty,

My daughter took her 2018 Honda Accord into the dealership recently because she was getting water in her taillight.  They charged her $90 to diagnose it and they said there was nothing wrong with it, but it needed to be replaced and it would cost $600.  Why is she getting water in it and how can a dealership charge $600 for a three-minute job?

how can a dealership charge $600

They're bilking you. It's in the unspoken dealership charter.

They are called stealerships for a reason.  Never take a vehicle to a dealer unless it’s for warranty work or recall.  Even then, there’s no guarantee they will fix the problem or do the work right.  Outside of warranty, they will take you to the cleaners.

I haven’t stepped foot in a dealership for repairs or even to buy parts in over 27 years!

Dealership charge as high as they can charge. That’s their nature. I hate dealerships.

Dealerships are ridiculous.  Personally I would dry it out put some gasket sealer around the seem( if it's coming in that way) . If it really does need replacing buy one yourself and replace.  It's not a hard job.
