WD40 on Brakes and Rims

What up Y'All!

I sprayed some WD-40 on my Rotors and wheel studs but this was because of rusting developing on the leading shoe lining. Also on the outer edge of my rims because of rim dust. So i sprayed it on a fair amount then left it for 10min and then hosed down all the wheels and brakes.

I took it for a whirl up the street but the brakes we're squeaking so i parked it and need to know what's the best thing to do now.

Thanks!

Use brake cleaner to clean off the WD-40.

Do not ever spray anything on your brake rotors except for brake cleaner. And ESPECIALLY not anything oily. That is very dangerous. They will always be rusty. It's normal.

Yeah, never use WD-40 for brakes or rims.

They make special compounds to clean rims with, and brake cleaner is the ONLY thing you want even remotely near your brakes.

WD40 is a combination of solvents and lubricants and should never be used on any brake parts.

After applying a can of a quality break cleaner to all the brakes, waiting a little bit and then hosing them down they're back to normal from what i can tell just driving in the suburbs. The bigger test will be on the highway but due to this pandemic im rarely doing that now so when i do i can drop another update. The rust is accumulating on them again as it should. So yeah keep WD-40 away from your brakes and use brake cleaner when needed guys.
