Hello I’m currently trying to decide what to do about my current 3rd gen 4runner, it’s an 02 with 293k miles frame is in excellent condition and the interior isn’t bad at all and it’s been owned by the same family before I got it and been serviced regularly. But the issue I’ve came across is it’s got a burnt valve and I’ve got 2 different opinions on it and they both say the same thing. I like the 4 runner so much I’ve been looking at buying a brand new one to replace it but I’m unsure what I should do!? Is it worth it to fix it or should I sell and or trade it off to get me a new 5th gen and be done with it ? Help me decide what to do! Thank you!
if you're mechanical, then it's a no brainer. Find a used low mileage engine and drop it in. Otherwise, don't bother. The tranny is probably not far behind.
Let someone else have a go at it. There's value in clean 4runners.
A reman engine is about $4k. If it were mine, I would pull the heads, get them rebuilt, install them and sell it for top dollar.
