Scotty,
I found an add selling a 1991 Jeep Comanche Pioneer for $4000. It is a 4.0 liter V6 with 300k miles. What do you think of the Jeep Comanches and do you think it’s a good deal? What should I look for if I go see it in person?
Thank you for your time, I really love your channel. You have helped me out a lot!
It's over 30 years old so pretty much everything is suspect. Although the 4.0 INLINE six (NOT a V6!) is very robust it could be pretty tired at the 300K mark depending on how it's been treated over the last 30 years. (There was a Chevrolet V6 available in the earliest Cherokees and Comanches but it was garbage.) Ditto for the transmission.
Price sounds way too high but who knows, there is some collector interest in those things and prices are out of whack all over the place. Be sure that a mechanic checks it out thoroughly if you proceed and in particular check carefully for rust underneath. Anything else can be dealt with but if it's a rust bucket then it's scrap. You might want to check in forums specific to the old Cherokees that the Comanche is based on, such as this one, for more details:
From what I've been seeing, everything is currently overpriced.
I suppose it depends on what you want to do with it.
As a toy/weekend project it will definitely keep you busy.
I’m a sucker for old inline 6 engines, so I am would be more interested than most.
If it’s rust free and original, it might have collectible value (ie, finding the correct valuation is gonna take some work). But face value as a truck, see @chucktobias above.
