What cars do you recommend buying in the 10k range and what cars should I avoid?

If you've been watching Scotty's videos you know he generally recommends Toyota and Honda products, with the caution that models with known problems are to be avoided.

That's a pretty wide field. Look for Hondas and Toyotas in your price range that meet your needs and do an internet search to check for any intrinsic problems with those models. (The carcomplaints.com web site is a good place to start.)
