my friend has a 2013 Kia Rio that has started to make a loud ticking noise while it’s running. We took it to a shop and they said it needed a new engine without any further explanation. It’s a 2013 Kia Rio with 103k miles, automatic transmission, and codes P0014 P0011 P052A P0326 P0420.

here’s a link to a video I recorded of the noise.

thank you!!

Sounds like a rod knock noise to me.

That’s what was praying it wasn’t. I wanted to be sure before I told him. Thank you!!

Here are the explanation, causes, and outcomes that could trigger those codes:

I am not a mechanic and can't tell you the exact problem, but the fact that "most likely the catylatic converter needs to be replaced" and the fact that that particular Kia engine is known to fail no later than 100-120k miles seems unfortunately unlucky for you.
