What is the best first car Scotty? Must be an SUV not a crossover or a crew cab truck and decent gas mileage please.
The best first cars are 90s Honda's with Manual, 90s Toyota no matter what, and 1996 and up Ford Crown Victoria/Mercury Grand Marquis. The Ford Crown Victoria can handle a bunch of abuse and is RWD with a V8, so if you want a fun car this would be it. Just make sure on the Crown Vic and Grand Marquis that it has the upper intake manifold changed.

I have 2 Vics and am actually looking for another one for my daughters first car. They do have power but are safer than they are fast. My 09 is my mod car and my 06 is my daily. 0-60 time stock is almost 9 seconds so they are not that fast really. They are tanks tho. Take a ton of abuse and keep going. Plus parts are dirt cheap and it’s pretty easy to work on.
Yes for sure Glitch, that is why they are the best first car, and if you want to have a little bit of fun it is RWD. It is slow but will last.
I see you are requesting SUV (not crossover) and good mpg.
It depends on your budget but on the cheaper end and also reliable would be an older Lexus Rx300 or Honda Pilot.
