This will be my first time buying a used, I'm in the market for something good and reliable for roadtrips to the mountains. Im looking at Toyota, Lexus, and Honda. Would you guys recommend Subaru???

I agree with Kaizen’s recommendation “for others” list. I wouldn’t rule Subaru out, but if you don’t need AWD and plan to keep your vehicle forever like Scotty I would just get a Toyota product. Just keep in mind Subarus have CVTs and while better (on newer ones) than before they still won’t last as long as a regular automatic transmission which Toyotas (and some Hondas) still offer.

How old are you talking about? Older Subarus (those with timing belts) are very prone to head gasket problems. Automatic transmissions and early CVTs are weak, standard transmissions OK. Also since they are AWD if you blow a tire you have to replace all four. and there is more maintenance.
Without knowing your budget it would be hard giving specific recommendations, but if suv then 4Runner and if truck then Tacoma. They keep their price pretty well so used ones wouldn't be cheap.
