What the heck was my co-worker thinking?

I just found out one of my co-workers is trading in his current generation Toyota 4Runner which has less than 100,000 miles and been giving no problems for a new Ford MachE EV.  He is trading down IMO.

What is he thinking?

He is NOT thinking.  You, obviously are.  He's making an emotional decision and we know they are always bad decisions.

Due to incessant propaganda advertising he may be under the delusion that going electric will "save the planet" or some such thing. Or, he may just have wanted the tax credits while not paying the 4Runner's gas bills. (I know a guy who bought an electric Mini for local use just because of tax credits.) Either way I would concur that your co-worker traded down.

The stupid thing is barely out of the starting gate and the latest recall is for the main battery connector melting down under some conditions, which Ford is trying to fix via a software update:

Maybe he was tired of putting too much gas in the 4Runner.

gas prices have me down too lately... to the point where I may have to spend more on insurance just to get the fuel efficiency of another vehicle.

Or, maybe he wants to experience the exhilaration of going 0 - 60 mph in 5 seconds.?

Buy it..

Except I plan to get a 2024 Lexus ES350 F-sport. 🙂

.

And if I got a 4Runner, I need at least a TRD Off-road since I go off-roading.  His is some luxury, mall-cruiser package.

I should’ve said flip it. Is he being offered market value for the vehicle?

He’s getting top dollar on his trade in.

I think he's tired of a car that whenever you turn the key it starts and runs without issues; otherwise nobody thinking properly will make this kind of move.

On the contrary I'd say he upgraded.
