What’s causing my car to stall?

Good morning. I’ve recently bought a 2000 Toyota Camry LE, with about 124k miles on it. After a few days of driving , my car would stall out when in park. Engine would shake , rpm’s would drop close to stalling then rpm’s would spike back up. Other times the car would completely stall. When in Drive the rpm’s are low and feels like it wants to give out. So far with the little knowledge I know , I’ve changed spark plugs and wires, cleaned throttle body , and still no chance. No check engine lights but we had a friend put a scanner in and the codes p0441 and p0446 were coming up. Not too sure what else to check for , never had this issue before . Any help or suggestions will be helpful ! Thanks

You're starting out with a car that is 26 years old so there could be any number of age-related problems. Did you have a mechanic check it out before purchase?

You have a problem with the car's evap system. See troubleshooting information in the links below:

Did you also check live data for problems?

Considering the age of the car you need to check everything. It would be no surprise if there were multiple problems. An analysis of live data may give you some clues.

Something simple you can try would be cleaning the throttle body with the appropriate cleaner. Also check for vacuum leaks in hoses that are potentially over 1/4 century old.

Per the rockauto.com database it appears that the 4-cylinder engine does not use a MAF sensor but the V6 does. If you have a V6 you can also try cleaning the MAF sensor, once again using the appropriate cleaner.

A repair manual for your car can be found here:

With those evap codes coming on, I'd be looking at the venting system for your fuel tank. Maybe you just needs to clear them out with some

compressed air.
