I would say the last good year for GMC would be about 2005. After that, they started adding all the electronic junk on their engines.
I'll go with right around 2000.

I’d say 2007/2008 was where GM started looking over the edge of the cliff that they ended up falling down and has been rolling down further and further ever since. My dad’s 2004 Suburban had 246k miles and still ran like a dream while his 2007 Suburban started having the check engine light come on at 187k miles and it started making weird sounds. 187k miles is “ok” but still a significant step down from the older ones before it.
