Whhat hatchback should I buy? Vauxhall Astra or Honda Civic?

Budget: £9000.

Usage: 50% motorways 50% city driving.

I have been doing alot of research and I am down to these two cars:

- Vauxhall Astra 1.4 Turbo Petrol 2018

- Honda Civic 1.8 Petrol VTEC SE Plus/Sport 2015

I have been comparing prices and the civics are far more expensive (insurance is cheaper though) than the astras here in the UK. An older civic costs the same as a newish astra. I have watched reviews and people have been giving alot of praise on the newer astras, though not much has been said about its reliability. And ofcourse Honda civics are known for reliability, but not sure if its worth buying a older civic over the newer astra. Reliability is ofcourse the most important for me, so if the Vauxhall Astra 2018 is unreliable I would pick the civic ofcourse. But I don't know because I cannot find much information on its reliability.

Civic by far. The only issue with the Civic I could think of was oil dilution because the models here come with a turbocharged engine, but a naturally aspirated engine doesn't have those issues. You would save money on a used car so compare used Civic prices. The British are good at taking out maps and drawing straight lines on them. Do you think they have time to make a quality car when they have other stuff to do like making borders for fun?

If the Civic is non-turbo then that's the one I'd pick.

Thanks for the help man, I decided I will get the Honda Civic 1.8 i-VTEC Petrol (2014-2015). I found a dozen with low mileage and below £8000.

Thanks for responses, I will get a civic then but what year is best? There are many different generations all with varying miles. Should I just go for the 2015 VTEC 1.8 Petrol? I don't think its turbo charged. Or should I go for something older and cheaper?

If you were in North America, I would refer you to the common problems page.
Back then they were mostly naturally aspirated non-turbo engines, and so was the 1.8 so you should be fine there.
The thing to note is that if its a CVT it was earlier on so they had some problems. If its a manual or automatic it should be fine.
Shortly, it depends on what you can afford.

I just noticed the Vauxhaul is turbocharged, another reason to avoid it.
