Wich gear oil rav4 III

Scotty,

I recently bought myself a facelift 2010 Toyota RAV4 4x4 2 litre manual drive.

First thing I allways do is change all fluids, waterpump and all filters, as well as spark plugs. Even in this case: 1 owner fully dealer maintained, 180K km -just over 100K miles-)

Everything I need is available in the tech datasheets except for wich oil I should use for my geartrain.

Dealer (in Holland were I unfortunately happen to live haha) just tells me to come over so they'll do it for me but since they couldn't tell me wether I should use GL4 or GL5 I figured I'd better ask Scotty and do it myself.

Hope hearing from you!

Kind regards, Sebastiaan.

Did you look here?

https://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/om-s/OM42783U/pdf/OM42783U.pdf

For the 4WD, the rear differential and transfer take GL5.  (see pages 469-471 of manual above).

Are you also asking about the manual transmission?

Tnx!

I don't know were you got that from, but it's a lot more detailed than my owners manual. Probably because Dutch people let everything done by the dealer, they just couldn't care less.

I was also asking about the manual transmission, indeed. So if you could tell me, I'd appreciate it.
Again, thanks!

Your owners manual is directly from the manufacturer they most likely know what is needed for your car a lot more than the dealers. Maintenance should be described in the owners manual for all different engine and transmissions.

Agreed. Yet...other than wich engine oil to use, nothing is said about what oil to use in transaxle, tranfercase, gearbox, etc. in the owners manual. They just refer to 'your local toyota dealership'.

For the manual transmission it is also GL5.  Here is a good video of how to change the oil on the manual transmission:
