2004 Honda Pilot 130k miles
So, just got this car. Trans fluid look tarnished on dipstick. But not burnt. So changed it. I used wolfs head full synthetic, had honda dw1 on the back of bottle. Drained it, and filled it.
Now it sometimes shifts lightly hard in 1st gear.
Not sure if it's doing this because trans fluid was so old, and changing it is causing issues. Or if it's simply because I didn't use honda fluid.
Found lubeguard trans protect fluid, put that in. Bottle said something about if I have a non dealer base fluid and want to bring it up to specs for dw1 just pour it in. Think this will help?
I don't think it's the fluid
Hondas are very particular about fluids, using OEM is always best. However being over 20 years old it's always possible the trans itself has developed internal problems especially if not maintained in the past. Honda automatic transmissions of that period are known to be weak.
