Hi All,
I have 2010 Yaris 1.3L with manual transmission closer to 200k kms. has two concerns..
The clutch release point is high and sometimes when in 2nd gear it seems car advance bit forward (may be slipping). How to figure out if the clutch is worn out and need replacing? Can I do it by myself (my skill level is not high on this type of job-never changed a clutch before)
When put into reverse gear I used to ride on clutch and the can hear grinding noise..Any idea why is this? Is it bad to ride on clutch when in reverse? Bit new to manual driving and afraid to fully engage gear in reverse...
Typically it's not for the faint of heart to replace a transmission clutch, it's a pretty involved job that needs the transmission unhooked from the flywheel and CV axles. It's definitely not recommended if you're a novice.
It is bad to ride on a clutch, it will wear it out faster. You're supposed to hold it all the way in, put it in Reverse, touch the pedal a bit, and let it fully out.
