ZF transmission

Hey Scotty, I'm curious of how the quality is from the ZF 6HP26 automatic transmission. Some vehicles like the BMW 3, 5, and 7 series has them in their earlier vehicles, Jaguars, Hyundai Genesis 4.6, Hyundai Equus, and a few Aston Martins have them for example but do you have any thoughts about it?

ZF 6HP26 automatic transmission

Unlike so many other high-powered cars, these ZFs can handle what the engine makes.

They have a good reputation, but they absolutely require high quality and frequent service!

They still have plenty of issues that can arise, but as far as 6 speed transmissions go, these are good.

Mechatronics can fail, TCC contaminates solenoids, they're very sensitive to oil quality.

Also worth mentioning that reading online, some (mostly very high performance, very expensive, car owners) recommend replacing additional 'consumables' and rubber parts each 37.5k miles (including valve body seals, the mechatronic sealing adaptor, and the small internal transmission wiring harness - it's about $100-$200 extra so not such a big deal).

BMW 3, 5, and 7 series has them in their earlier vehicles, Jaguars, Hyundai Genesis 4.6, Hyundai Equus, and a few Aston Martins

Also Ford F-series, Maseratis, Land Rovers, VWs (incl. Audi), Bentleys, etc.

These transmissions had some issues. The torque converter locks up after each gear.

My cousin had a BMW 3 Series, I believe with this transmission. Second or Third gear eventually went out on him.
