| It was a long marriage, but ford has also been collaborating with other designers. For example, on their DURATEC V6 engines, "The primary engineering input came from Porsche (...) and Cosworth, who helped with cylinder head manufacturing", Personally I think it's a great engine, one of the best ones out there. Also, the ford Sigma was developed in collaboration with Yamaha, while the Duratec HE was developed by Mazda, the DuraToruq developed with PSA, with the 5 cylinder DuraToruq variants being developed by Volvo, the ford Duratec SE was also developed ... | |||||

| (This is the next generation but answers still apply, its basically the same reliability wise) They have particuarly horrible automatic transmissions. I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy one. Otherwise they are OK. Definitely don't get the hybrid variants. FWIW, check out some of the carcomplaints data... "They’re definitely not as well made as a Toyota RAV4 or a Honda CR-V." Yeah, not even close. The only way I could recommend this car would be if its dirt cheap and a mechanic says the transmission is in good shape. I can't even imagine how many transmissions commerical ones in NYC have gone through... | |||||

| Hybrids have more technology that tend to burn wallets as they age. With Toyota hybrids this can happen 150-250k miles. They just don't. As for the hybrids in NY, we have a previous thread about Escape hybrids and their taxi longevity, but in short commerical use is a whole different topic. They rarely have the original powertrain at that mileage. They have dif ... | |||||

| Well ok so it is based on a Volvo/Ford/Mazda platform and they are decent cars in general. Now you can find common issues and reliability reports by clicking here: I see that they did have major power steering, transmission, and engine issues. I would look for a 2009 model before the refresh they are more reliable. To look at overall reports: I would also read this: Hope these links and information helps! | |||||

| ... them cores from junked Focuses, but they aren't buying them. The TCMs were all stripped out of the pick a part Focuses and Fiestas anyways. I bought a 2013 Focus in late June. I knew the Focus had transmission problem, but figured ford had all that sorted by now. The Focus was one the few used cars I could find that weren't crazy expensive. It ran great for two months before the transmission began intermittently loosing gears 2, 4, 6 and reverse. The ford dealership said it was the TCM and it was covered under extended warranty. They put me on the waiti ... | |||||
