| Are Sprinters reliable? I see them all over, mainly for commercial use, sometimes fir passengers, and often as recreational van conversions. It’s a Mercedes, so that may be a clue. At the same time, there doesn’t seem to be much from Toyota or Honda as competition for this segment. What van in the same category might be able to last longer with less problems than the Sprinter? | |||||

| I’m planning to get a new Sprinter based RV with the V6 Diesel engine next year. I want to live in the RV full time for a few years. I don’t plan to tow a car so it will be my only vehicle. How long or how many miles do you think this will be a reliable vehicle? I would prefer to trade it in before it becomes an endless money pit. | |||||

| The Sprinter is sold as a light commerical van officially but the Ford T-series as it is called apparently is sold as a light commerical vehicle. I don't know the relevancy or what the difference is but there you go. | |||||

| I'm pretty sure that there's a non-ecoboost Ford engine available. Your first Mercedes inspection will cost around $800, so they can tighten bolts and look at the brakes lol.I know a retired couple who got stranded on a road trip with their Sprinter that broke down with less than 1,000 mi . Parts were not available so they coaxed it back home in limp mode, and then had to wait another several weeks for the sensor or whatever. | |||||

| Hi scotty im looking to get a 2020 mercedes diesel 6cyl Sprinter as a work vehicle. What are your thoughts on them as well as compared to the other option being a ford transit gas van? And which do you think i should get? Whichever it will be will be loaded heavy at all times. | |||||

| Really depends on what you want; the performance and fuel economy on the diesel engine is amazing. As for maintenance, yes, the Mercedes Benz Sprinter is probably more expensive than the gasoline engine. No, I didn't compare it to the Transit gasoline engine, but, I test drove a Transit 350 diesel. The Transit is a little lower to the ground and handles differently from the Mercedes... | Great question! I want to build a DIY camper van in the next year and am looking at a Sprinter. I'm a little scared of maintenance and repair costs compared to a comparable gasoline Ford Transit. Did you compare the two before you bought yours? Is there a thread that discusses the pros/cons? Should I start one? | |||||

| ... of the vehicle in repairs. I would gone with a Toyota Tundra or Sequoia a while ago but I am hearing really bad things about their new V6s. I also considered a Mercedes Sprinter diesel, but they have gone and nerfed their engine as well when they ditched the v6. I can still get v8 American Pickups and the GMC Yukon, but overall reliability with US vehicles has been lacking for a long while. I don't see a clear winner in terms of longevity. | My number one choice for a live in and travel van would be a Sprinter. Most serious Van lifers get a Sprinter if they can afford it. But I highly doubt you can get one for $8k. Possibly available for $8k is an older Toyota Sienna or Honda Odyssey, with an edge to Toyota for reliability and longevity. | |||||

| well you can't win a race with no HP that's for sure 🙂 and the best analogy for this is a Sprinter vs. power lifter power lifter will never be able to outrun the Sprinter cause he lacks HP but you can bet once he lays his hands on him he can rip him in half with no problems 😀 | |||||

| Here's my ranking: 1. Ford E Series 2. GM vans(Chevy Express and GMC Savana) 3. Mercedes Sprinter (diesel engine) 4. Ford Transit 5. Nissan NV200 6. Ram Promaster I think the Ford E Series and GM vans are fairly reliable. Ram Promaster is basically a Fiat Ducato. Nissan NV200 is basically an underrated vehicle because I haven't seen anyone I know who owns Nissan NV200s. I only see the same 2 Nissan NV200s many times in the neighborhood. Mercedes Sprinter are fairly decent with the diesel engine, but it includes a lot of maintenance as they age. | |||||
