For what you would pay for one you could probably get something better.

The earlier ones like 03 04 and the 09-12 model were decent. Watch Scotty's video on the Nissan Xterra as they are the same car. Also remember to have a mechanic check it out.

There are very severe common issues with some years so year would be appreciated. Our "Worst Vehicles with Worst Problems" is in the used car FAQ section and guess what? Some years of the Pathfinder are there.

05 06 07 are some of the worst years to buy.

Oh yeah the 98-04 should be a good vehicle but of course if it was taken care of that is why you should have a mechanic check it out but they were much better made than the newer ones. You might also want to consider the Xterra from those years they were essentially the same SUV.

well the 98th to 2004 where decent vehicles much better than the later model ones of course being that old you do want a mechanic to check it out especially the automatic transmission

Those were a very good trucks. Only the first one, 1996, was rather bad. I owned a ‘97 from new - manual, 4WD, … all the way until 2010 when I got my current CRV. Not one single problem. It just run and run, … and actually, it is still running! I see it now and then in the ‘hood. Still looks good! Must be that LPS-3 rust protection I applied to it. After all, we have about 7-8 months of road salt on the road. All other Pathfinders of that era, locally, are mostly gone, … just an odd one, from time to time is still seen, but all heavily, heavily rusted! But I’m reminiscing, … sorry.
