Hey scotty, I just came across this 02 f150 for 4 grand at a used car lot, it has 200000 miles on it, im thinking about checking it out cause i don't have a lot of money but i need a full sized pickup truck, do you think itd be worth it? And what should i check for when going out to look at it?
20 year old truck for $4K? I'd offer them $2k and only after I did a dry/wet compression test to see how bad the engine is.
Any solid running-and-driving half ton or larger truck (any year, make, or model) will sell for much more than that in this market. Even with 200,000 miles.
So the question is why is it listed at 4 grand? It has a problem. Find out what it is and whether you can fix it (or live with it) before you buy it.
A good inspection should help.
Here in Wisconsin, rust is the biggest killer for most vehicles. That's the first thing I would look for depending on your location. That brings a lot of headaches you might not for see.
