Just bought a 03 Mercury Marquis auto from a private owner with 300k miles for 2 grand... pricy but i needed a car that is big, doesn't have rust on it but what do you suggest i check over, i was told a new engine is in the car and the engine has about 40k miles, is there anyway to see if its true.

You could do a compression test or better yet a leak down test.
A 40,000 mile engine will have excellent, even compression on all cylinders.
A 300,000 mile engine, not so much

Demand to see the receipt for the "new engine" which you should have done before you bought it.
