03 subaru forester 217,000 head gasket blew water in oil. Was shut off before over heated. Is it worth fixing it also needs windshield and front struts. Im pretty sure i can do it myself. Or should i buy new car?

Thats a $1500 job easy for a good mechanic. Doing yourself if you do car repairs then go for it! I would still ask yourself about the overall condition of the car and what it has had replaced. If most every major item original then it may not be worth it.

If you can do it yourself, about $1000 is what it cost me in parts doing the last one (machined  head which wasn't much really (think it was $50 from my guy on this one) , did timing set/belt and whatever else it needed while I had it out of the car, don't remember all the little things but just stuff that should be done that added to the price.)  Use the turbo head gaskets as replacement.  Has been 5ish years since I did it and location can dictate price some.

 

I expect it'll cost you the same(ish) if in US.  You deicide if the cost is worth it to you, as for market thoughts, probably not great idea putting a $1000 in an 18 yo Suby, of course opinions....
