Should I buy a 2003 toyota camery with 217,000 miles with a bad cat code but drives and shifts nice thanks

It would help if you told us the price, but this vehicle has high mileage and is 18 years old, so it's not worth much to begin with.
On top of that, cats can be very expensive to replace.
I would skip this one.

No. That Camry is known for oil sludge issues. Since you mentioned it has a bad code to begin with, I would walk away especially with that many miles.
