I am having a problem with my 04 silverado randomly shutting off.. i replaced the mass air flow sensor but for some reason when i unplug it to test it, it stays running.. its a brand new mass air flow.. its still shutting off randomly. Im about to try ignition coils and plugs.. why would unplugging a new sensor keep it running?
Yes, it will run with maf disconnected. Check/monitor fuel rail pressure, I suspect you have a pump going out. Codes?
Have you checked for vacuum leaks?
These blow the intake gaskets more often then you think and will cause this issue as well.
Ignition control module is failing. Complete failure is absolutely "no start". Plug and play easy replacement.
It could be that but without further info, not a good spot to start and just saying (or sounding like) it's definitely that, isn't the best advice imo.
