stalls when I shift into reverse

I have a 04 lincoln navigator 5.4 liter V8 with 215k miles. It just started doing this a couple weeks ago. On cold starts in the morning, I would shift into reverse and the vehicle would shutter and die. I then would put it in park, start it again. Shift to reverse and again shutter and die. It would do that about four to five times in a row. I'd be lucky for it not to do this and back out of my driveway. The shop that i bring it to says that its the Torque Converter and your better off with a remanufactured transmission all the way around. The whole job would run about 5500$. Problems also are; A/C clutch is starting to go out from the sound that it makes occasionally when on but still works and blows cold. Fuel gauge is not reading correctly and that would be to either, drain the fuel tank and adjust the float or replace the the relay sensor. Or replace the instrument panel and do a dealership reprogram. I've owned the vehicle for almost 20yrs and love it but when the KBB is under 3k$ I'm afraid I'll have let her go. What would you do Scotty?

Sounds like time to let it go. Vehicles don't last forever, you can push them 20 years or more but they'll need more and more repairs as you go along. Generally not economically feasible unless you work on them yourself.
