Good Afternoon, my husband bought me a used 2005 dodge Durango limited 5.7 hemi from original owner! It had been sitting for a year and half due to when the car was turned on it would make the putting sound and was advised it was coil packs! We bought new coil packs and it would still do the putting sound we had a buddy hook it up to the computer and it threw code P2302, P2305, P2308. He was able to check each coil pack and they were all throwing power so no misfire! We bought a BRAND NEW battery, alternator and starter. We reached out to someone that reprograms computer and they did not believe it was a computer issue and advised us to do a hard reset “ take off the cables to the battery hold together for 30 secs and then place red then the black” we did that and the putting had STOPPED!!! We were excited we drove the car the whole weekend then I get up Monday take the kids to school and when it was time to pick them up the car battery was dead … now mind you this is a brand new battery bought that Friday. We can jump the car and it will turn on I can drive it but within 2hrs that new battery is dead again! We checked the alternator it keeps the car running when cables are unplugged we checked the starter again still good there…. The vehicle has a non working radio and we had “unplugged “ to see if maybe that would be draining the battery since we can not see the screen. Not it…. We are now lost…. We have no idea what it could be should I spend the money and get the computer reprogrammed or just call it a quit! I feel as if it will be a simple fix but we only know how to do the basics and now feel this is out of our league!!! What could it be do u believe the computer needs to be reprogrammed?
Well there's many things that can make a car drain the battery. First do my video fixing battery drain on your car Scotty. It's on YouTube and I'll show you half a dead short. But if you have a live short which happens only when the car is running, those are absolute stinkers to figure out. I'd advise seeing expert car electric mechanic on that one cuz it could be hellacious figuring that stuff out. It can even be a problem in the computer system which ultimately controls charging on that thing
