2007 Ford Escape. I’m looking into buying a locking gas cap with how crazy people are. Any recommendations on a high quality cap and the efficacy of such locking caps?

People are so crazy that these days they don't bother with the gas cap, they just puncture your tank to drain the gas out.

@chucktobias The cars that I have worked on that were sitting for long time, were a true pain to drain the gas out. I can see why people are doing it the quick way and drilling.

With that being said, a locking cap may discourage somebody that wanted to be annoying and sugar your tank or something.

Just check amazon and make sure a ton of people reviewing and liked it.

I agree with chuck. I would rather if they helped themselves to a bit of gas than punctured my tank.

It might not stop a truly experienced or desperate thief, but might make your car a harder target than the one next to it in a dark parking lot.
Rock Auto has a Motorcraft brand (ie, Ford parts supplier) locking cap for 25 bucks. Probably not worth it if you mostly park in safe areas. But if you frequently leave your car in sketchy neighborhoods it might justify the investment.
