I am trying to figure out why my radio cuts in/out intermittently even on a cd mode. I read that these vehicle have the radio and alarm running through an electrical switch located at the back of the vehicle next to the battery. Is that true?

I am not able to detect a pattern besides the volume increasing randomly after turning the volume button forwards or backwards after much manipulation.  The alarm has no issue and I have pulled the radio, taken her apart only to confirm I do not know what I am looking for.  I did try spraying some tuner spray near the volume button but no luck.  I would like to be able to confirm the issue is with the head unit or not before throwing any money at the problem.
