It really depends on the model year and engine with newer trucks I would recommend an F-150 with the 5.0 Coyote or the 3.7 V6. The 5.0s make good power and are pretty reliable. The 3.7 is nothing special but they are ultra reliable. Eco boosts can be ok if taken care off and lastly I would stay away from Triton engines.
My knee-jerk choice would be a Ford but like others have said, depends on the model year, all manufacturers have hits and misses. The few GM trucks I've worked on didn't leave a very good taste in my mouth (think of replacing entire brake lines that rusted out), conversely, the Ford trucks I've used seem to be pretty well built in general. When I research a car/truck my first stop is the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. NHTSA.gov or safercar.gov. I look up the year/make/model and I read through ALL the complaints. I don't pay too much attention to the recalls, mostly because the manufacturer has to fix them for free, but in the complaints, look for patterns, like a certain part that fails a lot (like the Mazda CX-5 windshields that crack on their own, as an example, they may have already remedied this a while ago). You should also check the NJ Lemon Law Unit (my state) where they publish/update a PDF file every month that lists all the vehicles/VINs that have been branded as lemons, you can get a feel if a specific make/model is a problem if you see pages and pages of lemon branded VINs of the same make/model. The more information you get the better off you'll be when you finally make your decision.
I bet Scotty will say f150
I guess it depends on what what model years you are looking at. Both can have their issues but some years are better than others.
As said, it matters what years you are looking at. Overall I would buy a Ford F150 with the 5.0L V8. The EcoBoost after 2015 is the other choice. However, they do have problems with the valve body and some have issues with the turbos. I have owned Dodge's, Ford's and GMC's and Fords have been the best. Non have been perfect.
My Friend . Go for a Toyota Tacoma from year 2007 and up... Or a tundra . They can take a beat and barley need any fixing
Be careful with the Ford 3valves 5.4 & 4.6L. Have it checked out by a good mechanic for sure. Had to replace my 07 5.4L engine about a month after I bought it last spring. From what I’ve read, Ford had the issues more or less ironed out by about 2008 though.
F150
A lot depends on the year and specific model, as others have stated. I have a 2007 F150 6yl, manual transmission, manual windows, manual door locks, etc...I wanted simpler and found it 🙂 It has been a wonderful truck, looks good and does what it should.
You might want to give specifics on what you are wanting to get, but I would avoid anything Chevrolet. And most of my life I've been a rabid anti-ford Chevy man...not anymore. I avoid them like the plague now.
Like everyone else said, it depends on the model year. I have a 2019 sgmc sierra at4 with the new body style. I've had some minor issues along with rough shifting due to the transmission. I should've listened to Scotty but the new body style made my lizard brain pull out the wallet. Regardless of what you get, make sure you do some dealership research if you buy a newer vehicle or a vehicle that comes with a warranty. Luckily, the dealership has been very cooperative with me about fixing any issue I've had, no matter how minor. I would ask your friends and family if they've had any good/bad experiences with any specific dealers, that way if you do run into problems maybe they'll take care of them. If you do get a GM vehicle, expect some problems. If only Lexus made a truck....
