08 Pontiac G6 runs like crap - 2.4L Ecotec

08 Pontiac G6 2.4L Ecotec & automatic transmission

I've been having problems with my car running like crap since I've owned it. I bought it in 2019 with 78K miles on it and had the timing chain replaced by a reputable shop shortly after purchasing it.

I've noticed that the car runs like complete crap when under load. It is especially noticeable with the A/C on, although it still runs poorly even with the A/C off. When I accelerate, I just about have to floor it to get the car to move. When under load, the RPMs surge somewhere between 2,000 and 2,200 as it struggles to move. Once it gets enough throttle (75-100%), it jumps up and accelerates as it should. It almost feels like an issue with the Mass Air Flow sensor. I have no check engine light, and no stored or pending codes. The Mass Air Flow sensor's data appears normal (volume increases with throttle, decreases when I let off). Fuel trim sits somewhere around -2.3%. Oxygen sensor data seems normal, fluctuating up and down. Throttle position sensor data seems normal, sitting at around 25% at idle and increasing/decreasing as I press on the gas pedal. Air filter was replaced in spring with a generic paper filter, and is clean. VVT solenoids were replaced in spring making little-to-no difference.

Any ideas?

Well Pontiac made crap anyways and ecotec is one of the worst designs of all time when they age they are almost impossible to diagnose because of the high fuel pressure and complex computer relationships between engine and transmission. If you live near Clarksville I check it out for free and tell you what I think but you're going to find it's probably going to cost a fortune to fix that pile of junk

The car runs like crap because it is crap, that's why pontiac stopped making those cars. The quality control on them was an absolute disaster and they don't last long. That's why sales wasn't that good for the dealers. My prediction is you will throw lots of money at that car from here on out unfortunately. Good luck to you.
