Hey scotty. I was changing to oil on this truck my dad gave me with around 188,000. I was wondering if you use any engine oil flush additives when changing oil? I read up that they may not be good for high mileage but I'm not entirely sure? The truck was kinda beat up here and there so I'm all about preserving the engine as much as I can. Also is there any major differences in oil filters as I have heard bad reviews about Fram and have been looking towards the Royal purple filters instead. Thanks in advance!
Just change the oil regularly since the new oils have detergent and they clean up the gunks in the engine. The chemicals used for flushing are too caustic and they may end up eating the seals and that’s where the problems start.
Never flush your engine or transmission, unless it was your very last resort to keep the vehicle running.
For oil filters you want to get a premium one as they are better made and filter better. See the video that InThrustWeThrust put up. Bosch, Wix, Napa all make good oil filters.
