Hey, I recently purchased a Stage 2 Thorton Performance chip for my Focus SE. It's the 6 speed auto and the 2.0 NA i4.
I have it plugged into the OBDII port and I got the break in period of 150 miles, and I've noticed a huge change. What I'm wondering is if I leave it plugged into the OBDII port, will it still be using my cars battery? I know the OBDII is usable with the car off, but I was wondering if it's still gonna be draining my battery, or if it uses so little power with the car off, it's not even that big of a deal?
R.I.P Powershift and it’s dual dry clutch…
I really hope you also chipped that transmission…
@Dan I can't upvote a comment or I would. You are exactly on point.
I never, ever recommend performance chips because just like @Dan said they do not tune the other vital components of the car for the added power.
The battery drain is negligible and I wouldn't worry about it. What I would worry about is the transmission you'll be replacing in the near future.
Yeah I already replaced the clutch at 99k, currently at 142k. Those powershift DCT’s are terrible.
Yes but the clutch isn’t that much of an issue, with more power, you’re just risking wearing out the mechanical components (gears, bearings, casing, shafts, shift motors, and more…)

The PowerShift series (“DPS6” 250/ “MPS6” 450/ “TC-SST” 470) often encounter these issues even when completely stock and under completely normal driving…

check if you can chip your transmission (most focuses have the 6DCT250) or as @mod_man said, you’ll definitely have to replace it soon.
