Under what conditions does it overheat? While idling, or at speed?
There are many things that can cause overheating; stuck thermostat, clogged radiator, bad water pump impeller, blown head gasket, etc. If it overheats at high speed a soft lower radiator hose could be collapsing due to suction. (By the way you could get air conditioning in a convertible back then but it was a rarely selected option.)
