Hello everyone, my Dad left my Sister and I a Chevelle after he passed away a couple years ago. Still learning about the cars. We noticed a strange engine noise. Can anyone help me figure out what this is? I really appreciate any help.

Something is just loose and vibrating.

look for loose nuts or screws, and just start feeling around with your hand.

Listen to where the sound coming from, and press down with your hand on everything in that area and see if it stops.

Definitely just a loose hardware rattle. Check the butterfly nut on top of the air filter cover for starters.

If it has them, the sheet metal shrouds on the exhaust manifolds come loose all the time.  So do the sheet metal guards that separate the spark plugs from the exhaust manifold.  Check all the sheet metal stuff that could possibly get noisy if loose.

Sounds like Dad knew how to have fun.  Nice sounding engine.

Thanks for posting the video. My 1st thoughts are a worn idler or a belt tensioner pulley is causing the noise.  You could borrow a mechanic's stethescope, it looks like a medical stethescope excpet with a tube on the end and see if you can isolate which moving part is making the sound.  Another way of finding the culprit is, with engine off, take the belt off and see which pulley feels and/or sounds rough when you turn or spin it.

Or perhaps the fan blades are rubbing on the shroud?
