I have a 1980 olds cutlass....it has a 350 in it...and I took off the exhaust all the way to the engine block..no manifold and gave it hell up and down the road...it was loud as hell...will this hurt the engine

Yes. The engine is designed to have a certain amount of back pressure and without it, damage could ensue. Just put the exhaust system back on and give it the Italian Tune Up.
