Hi there, I have a 1981 ford f150 with a 300cid/ 4.9L and a 4 speed manual with a granny low. Can I use a thinner transmission fluid other than a gear oil? would it hurt the transmission?

Stick with whatever your manual says. Why risk that? You have one of the most bullet proof combinations that Ford ever produced.
