I have a chance at a 1985 Buick Regal, 3.8, with 59000 miles. 1 owner. Sat in garage in California 25 yrs.
I'm driving out for a visit to family. Would it be worth it to grab this car.
No rust or dents. Just dirty. Headliner trashed. Probably due to heat.
Also... if I grab it, should I put lubricant down the cylinders prior to cranking over
- Thanks Scottie
Pull the plugs and squirt PB Blaster into all cylinders. Drain the fuel and get fresh. New battery of course then go for it.
All fluids and filters will need to be changed. Antifreeze has probably turned corrosive, may have damaged cooling system parts or head gaskets. Brakes will need to be completely redone from master cylinder out to the wheels. Old fuel will have turned to varnish and the entire fuel system will need to be gone through. All rubber parts will need to be replaced. Do pour oil down the cylinders and let it sit for a day or two, then try turning the engine over by hand using a wrench or ratchet on the crank pulley nut. (I usually use Marvel Mystery Oil.) Don't try to crank the engine with the starter until it can be turned by hand.
That's not exactly a highly-desirable collector vehicle so don't put a lot of money into it.
