I just discovered that my gas gauge is totally inaccurate. I filled up my tank as full as I could possibly get it and the mileage range on the dashboard was 251, I have checked this a number of times and it is always the same...on every fill up....it looks like it is off by about 70 miles or so...it's hard to guesstimate the best time to fill it up....the other day it got down to about a quarter tank and so I was interested in seeing how much it would take and it took only 5 gallons....i'm hoping there is some way to reset this to an accurate reading...thanks.
I just discovered that the guage isn't accurate, the projected range on a fill up is off by about 60 miles. I burned 4.5 gallons of gas after driving 130 miles, so that comes out to about the right miles per gallon of 28 mpg. Problem solved. Thanks for your help.

Only way I know of to get it right is replace the fuel level sending unit inside the gas tank.
Thanks, that's the same thing Scotty said....sounds expensive, I think I can work around it for the time being.
You probably have to replace the sending unit in the gas tank is wearing out
I contacted you a couple months ago about my mileage range was way off, when I fill the tank it always shows 251 as being my mileage range, you suggested that the sending unit was probably going, as did someone else in this forum....so I just replaced the sending unit and fuel pump (it's all one unit), to no avail. I still have the same problem... btw, I didn't do the work, I had a ASE certified mechanic do it, any other ideas on what it could be? Thanks.
