Where is the rear main seal

Can anyone tell me how the rear main seal for a 1989 caddy brougham with a 5.0 307 oldmobile motor looks like? I removed tranny and i can not find it i know usually its a ring

The rockauto.com database shows that engine having an old-school hemp rear main seal.

Thank you i purchased a new oilpan gasket from oreillys and two of these came with it so on these motors the tranny did not have to be removed im guessing

Correct. You remove the rear main bearing cap to replace the bottom section. There are youtube videos showing the details. A tool called a "sneaky pete" can be used used to R&R the upper section without crankshaft removal.
