hi so i have a 1990 dodge dakota and my reverse wont work anymore it makes a whining sound what could have happened

It's a Dodge I'm amazed that lasted as long as it did.of course Jack to see if you're low on fluid that could do it but if it's full of fluid to transmission is just lost reverse gear and in those old ones reverse gear is often the first one to break down
