Hi Scotty,
I have a 1990 Oldsmobile Toronado Trofeo with 51k original miles with the 3800 v6 4spd. While at a stop light the volts tend to dip below 12volts. This usually happens at night when I have the head lights on and radio. The volts will dip and then go back up. Car never stalls out. What could the problem be? I changed the battery, alternator and checked all the grounds. I also noticed my cooling fan comes on and stays on everytimE I drive. The car doesnt overheat. Thanks
put meter into 2V range.
at idle, measure the voltage at the alternator positive stud. Compare it to the voltage at the battery, and positive stud on your fuse block.
Then put you multimeter negative probe on the alternator case, and measure various ground points: engine block, body, battery, etc.
