I have recently found an older gentleman that is looking to part with one of his 2nd Gen Mitsubishi Monteros and I am very interested. It's the 3.0 litre V6 RS trim with the 5 speed manual transmission with low range and manual locking hubs in the front. I test drove it in the mountains and the engine runs very well and the transmission feels strong and I found no leaks after beating it pretty hard on some trails in 4WD, engaging the low and high range. he wants 4k for it and I am curious if this is a vehicle worth the money and also if it would be manageable to keep it running for a long time. It has 230k miles on the clock but the engine was swapped out 4 years ago and the older gentleman claims he uses it to take his grandkids on road trips once a month or so. I am in Colorado but the the underside is surprisingly salt free considering the area I live in does not use salt for their roads. Also all the gauges work and the suspension driver's seat still feels great!
Any advice of any kind would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
It is a 30 year old car. What do you want to do with it? I would not consider buying it.
Hey @yaser, I wanted to overland with it or just do some weekend camping trips. It wouldn't be a daily by any means.
Still it is old as the hills. You probably need to change most (if not all) the plastic/rubber parts. Also, depending on maintenance history, you might need to put some money into that as well. I would consider Toyota Tacoma or 4Runner for your purpose long before thinking about Mitsubishi, but it is my personal opinion.
