Scotty I recently traded my old bike for a 1992 Toyota pickup regular cab 22re 5spd 2wd 121k miles.
Personal history:
after changing some coolant lines (and a head gasket, .020” off the head... whoops). She has provided 2k miles of reliable Maintenance free service While achieving 300 miles every 11-12 gallons of gas.
my question:
I set properly the valve clearances to.012.” I improperly performed it with the engine cold. Does this tolerance on the 22re expand or contract with heat? The valves sound noisy, but I prefer to run it loose since the cam journals on the 22re’s design is its engineered obsolescence. The lack of camshaft berrings makes this a weak spot.
I would prefer to avoid head damage at any expense... even noisy valveTran.
please advise.

They contract with heat.
Recommenting to mark this question as answered. Going to guess @johnny_the_menace knows what he's talking about here saying they contract with heat.
