Why does my 1994 Chevy S10 temp gauge show it’s overheating?

Why does my temp gauge mark overheating and dash says check gauges. My 94 Chevy s10 2.2L is not over heating I replaced thermostat, thermostat gasket, thermostat housing gasket, heater hose replaced and it temp gauge is at Max and check gauges light is on. Help!

If you're certain it is not really overheating, check temperature sensor and wiring.


How would I check the sensor because I was debating on whether to leave it as is and just put in a aftermarket temp gauge

A new radiator cap on a 28 year old truck might help a lot too.
