I'm looking at buying a Ford Ranger SuperCab 95k miles manual 4.0L V6 4x4 $4k. Seller states "new transmission with 5 year warranty (I have the receipt), a new ac pump, new radiator, and new alternator."
My concern is that sounds like a lot to be done within 95K miles. Does anyone who owns one of these have any other issues they have run into or have replaced besides this list. Thanks so much from someone who knows little about cars but educating myself slowly
Radiators and alternators on a truck that's 27 years old would be expected maintenance. I'd almost proactively plqce them myself if I had a vehicle that old. 95,000 miles is a little suspicious to me, on the other hand. Those trucks have mechanical odometers and they can be tampered with. Manual transmissions don't go bad like automatics do, especially not before 100k miles, unless a person drove with their hand slightly pressing on the gearshift all the time. That can wear out gear synchros inside the gearbox.
I'd have a mechanic check it out. Also have them look for rust if you're in a rust prone area. If it checks out, then I might call that a decent buy. I paid $3k for a Ranger 5 years newer and with 250k on it. 3.0 V6 4×4. That's not a bad price compared to what I got.
