1994 Land Cruiser - Engine Oil Dipstick Level

Hi Scotty,

Car: 1994 Toyota Land Cruiser, 280K miles

Why is the engine oil level NOT the same on both sides of the dipstick?  The engine oil dipstick goes into the engine with one side facing the front of the car and the other facing the firewall.  The oil level on the side of the dipstick facing the front of the car is between the low and the high mark, but the oil level on the side facing the firewall is at full.  Which oil level is correct?  I never noticed it before.  Thanks

I see that a lot on cars.

Mayber the dipstick goes into the pan on an angle? Or maybe some of the oil gets wiped off as you pull it out? I find the level on the back is usually more consistent and easy to see, so I use that.
