 Have a toyota 1994 celica 1.8l

Problem which im facing is as follows,

i'll be driving the car just fine for example on the highway and after driving for a bit all of a sudden i'll have a complete loss of power no acceleration, when i look at the rpms they'll be at 0 as if the car was off. When i downshift rpms will jump again and while holding on to the accelerator it'll jerk and no acceleration. Once i come to a complete stop i'll take the key off and start again and it'll drive off fine again. I've noticed when the issue is gonna happen because i'll have sudden hesitation and little hiccups until it finally does it.

Now the other day it happened i pulled off to the side of the road and when i went to crank it up it just kept cranking and no start. I tried to check if i had spark but i was by myself so i couldn't really see, after almost an hour of this i finally pulled off the MAF sensor and it started right up, but when i was driving home again it shut off when i started it up again it kept driving fine. I'm bummed out about what this could be at first i was thinking fuel pump, but the symptoms don't seem to be the pump or gas related, it seems as if its ignition. Was also thinking maybe Crank position sensor? Please help.

As what i know from the previous owner it seems it has a new distributor, new plugs and wires etc.

Well, it sounds like you've looked at the fueling. In my experience, sudden total shutoffs are usually electrical. I'd start by going through the MAF sensor and ignition-related (don't forget the interlock devices, if any) electrical junctions and wiring, cleaning with some contact cleaner and looking for any looseness or fray in those could give those symptoms - sudden engine shutoff then sudden health. Bumps or engine motion can shake those connectors and wires.
